No Daddy – Go Daddy

I recently started working with a new client when I realized something. It has been a really long time since I bitched publicly about web hosting service GoDaddy. Now I have another reason to.
This new client has several domains they want to develop. They got a smoking hot deal if they locked into a three year hosting contract with No Daddy. They no longer wonder why I call GoDaddy “No Daddy“. “No, you can’t do that” is a popular phrase for their customer service agents.
Now don’t get me wrong. Every web hosting company has their good and their bad, and GoDaddy is great for the casual user. Just for ecommerce or business people who want to build a empire online, GoDaddy has got to be the worst one to use. I know, their ads are real hip and Bob Parsons makes some slick and sexy videos. They promise you the moon for the price of a Slurpee at the local 7-11.
Don’t worry, they will deliver what they promised and not much more than that. As long as you have read the fine print. Just be ready to jump through a ton of hoops to get to what you want or what you THINK you paid for. Only to find out what you thought you paid for, is not really available for the plan you selected and no upgrades are available.
Now remember, I am talking about the person who has more than one domain name to host and wants each domain to be different. Their Admin Panel is a joke and the way you access your content on each website is frustrating beyond belief. Nothing is in a logical place or under a logical label. The help section is chaos rain supreme when compared to other web hosting companies.
Where more user friendly web hosts have one click installs and easy plug and play ability on all accounts; No Daddy likes you to fumble around their site, make requests and ask for help. Than wait a few days to find out that your hosting package is not the right one and you need to start over or build it yourself. “Oops, sorry, we can’t offer you that service on your package. Try another one.”
It’s frustrating. What should be a few hour process to get a domain active and website live with any other web hosting company; turns out to be a multi-day process and you have to build it from absolute scratch.
And don’t even get me started on their long history of confiscating domain names for alleged TOS violations!! I did say alleged violations. That’s a whole other rant/posting.
In the future, I think I will tack on a 50% GoDaddy aggravation fee for just having to work with No Daddy. Maybe that way I can make it affordable for my clients to go with a better webhosting company.
